Week 1
Summary of Work Done During the Holidays, Update on Current Plan and How will this Blog be Used.
Written By: Trumann (20 Oct 2021)
Before the Week 1, the team was hard at work finalizing our Final Year Project or FYP in short. At first, our first idea after a few brainstorming sessions was "Recycling of Waste Polystyrene" and we pitch our idea to Mr. Ting, who was filtering to see whether our project could be done before starting. Unfortunately, our project was too ambitious as a few steps in the project was advanced enough to be a FYP in itself and was scrapped as a result.
Afterwards, Mr. Ting suggested we take up this project on "Hydrogen Generation through Electro using biomass". Dr. Noel wanted a group to take this project as he saw potential in it and the pervious group that did this did not do a good job. The team discussed and decided to take it on.
Update on Current Plan
The team did research and has planned to build the previous group's prototype on Week 2 alongside some addition experiments on Chitin and Chitosan. This was to identify the flaws in their design and figure out ways to improve. For our improved design, we have decided that we were going to use laser cutting and possibly 3D printing if our additional experiments are successful. Using those tools will allow use to build a more sturdy and robust design as compared to the previous group which was using plastic containers and a lot of glue.
Any further updates will be added accordingly.
How will the Blog be Used?
The team will be using the blog to update the progress of prototype in the following weeks. The "Practical" tab will contain details of what was done during the practical and what did or did not work as planned. The "Week" tab will contain any discussion or work that was done outside of "Practical". There will also be separate posts on steps on how to operate machines like the laser cutter.
